It's Chili Time!

January 6, 2022: The Great Chili Cook-off coming to a Serra Club meeting near you!
It's Chili Time!

Calling all chili cooks!

If you do chili, now is the time to get out your favorite Crock Pot, slow cooker, or cooking kettle.  It's time for all chili makers to throw together their best chili for the 2022 Great Chili Cook-Off with the Johnson County Serra Club.  You bring the chili, we will supply all the fixings (cheese, chips, crackers, etc., and drink) and tableware.

This year, the Great Chili Cook Off shifts a gear, with cooks competing for a prize (you’ll be sure to want to win!).  Word has it that this is either the 7th or the 8th annual Chili Cook Off event hosted by the Serra Club of Johnson County.  The event will take place at the club's General Membership Meeting on Thursday evening, January 6, 2022, at 6:30 PM.  The venue for the gathering is the Fr. Barak Room at Curé of Ars Church in Leawood.  The biggest addition to this year's edition is the introduction of "voting" for the best chili by cash donation.

“Vote” = “Cash”

Chili tasters (that is, everyone in attendance - guest or member who wishes to share a meal and taste the culinary work of contestant cooks) will "vote" for their favorite recipe with their pocketbooks.  No vote is too small.  No vote is too large.  Be sure to bring cash in the denominations with which you plan to vote, $1, $5, $10 or larger.  There will be no bank at the venue.  We cannot make change!

Winners (first, second, and third place) will be judged based on cash accumulated by "votes" for their entries. Tasters can “vote” for as many chilis as they might like and vote as many times as they might like.  There is no limit.  Bring your wallet; vote often; vote meaningfully!

All proceeds from the contest will go to the support of consecrated religious life in the Archdiocese.

Cooks: let us know your intent to bring a pot (or two) of chili so we can plan accordingly.  Click this link:  Bring your best chili! to get directly to the sign-up page, where members can sign up.

Cooks:  if you have a Venmo account, your culinary fans can "vote" using your Venmo account that evening. Bring your own means of making known your Venmo address! All "voting" - whether in cash or by Venmo - must be completed by the end of the meal.  Winners will be determined once all "votes" are counted.

If you are not a member, but wish to enter the contest and bring a pot of your own chili, send an email of interest to contact@jocoserra.org or call 402-462-0305 and leave a message.  Be sure to include your name, email address and a phone number.

Our program for the evening will be presented by Leah Conner, Executive Director of the Wyandotte Pregnancy Clinic, in Kansas City, KS; and Diane Droughard, Executive Director of the Olathe Pregnancy Clinic, in Olathe, KS.

Don’t miss this fun, savory event!  Guests welcome!
