We connected at Pilgrim Coffee in south Overland Park on a warm July 2025 morning. (There is a theme here: coffee and conversation with a seminarian!) Andrew Cunningham shared his vocation story - and some great pearls of wisdom - over a cup of Joe. An hour whizzed by and I bid him goodbye, thanking the Lord for the opportunity to connect. Read Andrew's story!
In July 2025, seminarians Drew Stanley and Jimmy Mendoza undertook a pilgrimage to California to close out the summer's experience prior to returning to seminary life and to explore a part of the country where neither had previously traveled, seeking God's presence in every encounter. The Canaanite woman in Matthew's gospel begged Jesus for mercy, equating her lot in life to something less than human. As a Canaanite, she was detested by the Jews. May God grant me the ability to strive for humility like the Canaanite woman.

St. Augustine said it best, "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you." There is a great deal of suffering in our world today. Faith in our Risen Savior and hope in eternal life are vital in the worthy effort to overcome suffering.
Bob Rooney is a "senior" seminarian. Like many other priests-in-the-making whose vocation story involves a response to God's call a bit later in life than post-high school or college, Bob was an attorney for 30 years prior to his entry into seminary. Look inside for Bob's vocation story, and his perspectives about seminary life and transitional diaconate ordination, which he anticipates in May 2025.
With the help of long-time friend, Len Chmelka, we offer this tribute to Serran, Nancy Gibson, whose unexpected death on January 21, 2025, shocked the Serra Community.
