The 2024 edition of Quo Vadis unfolds at Savior Pastoral Center the (photo left) weekend of December 20 - 22, 2024. Vocations Director, Fr. Dan Morris, anticipates attendance of nearly 80 young men at this year's retreat.

Open by invitation to single men who are high school juniors and older, the event includes the opportunity to join diocesan seminarians in praying the Liturgy of the Hours, adoration, recreation, meals, while participating in insightful retreat sessions and fellowship.

This year’s retreat master is Rev. Paul Hoesing (photo right), President-Rector of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He’ll be joined by priests and seminarians of the archdiocese, who will share discernment stories and answer questions. Archbishop Naumann will be there to meet attendees and provide a word of encouragement in the discernment process.

The theme of this years discernment weekend is, "Do whatever He tells you." These words of Mary (John 2:5) to the servants at the Wedding Feast of Cana led to the revelation of Jesus' mission on earth: to call all to lives of holiness, to follow Him. Our Lady's instruction is as pertinent to us as it is to the young men discerning their vocational call in life. "You can't discern forever," Fr. Morris reflected in a recent conversation. "At some point, action - a decision - is necessary. You must do something."

On Saturday morning of the weekend event, the group heads out to a local destination for a morning experience in the archdiocese. This year, the group will travel to St. Patrick Parish in Kansas City, Kansas, home of one of the most diverse congregations in the Kansas City area. There they will interact with Pastor, Fr. Mark Mertes, Parochial Vicar and Chaplain of Ward High School, Fr. Timothy Skoch, and Fr. Michael Van Lian, who leads the Chin Burmese Community at the parish. The group will hear about pastoral life in a multi-cultural parish, and enjoy an authentic Chin lunch prepared by parishioners.

As Serrans, we have opportunities to be of help during the Quo Vadis weekend. There are two big ways to do so: 1) join in a weekend of adoration for the retreatants and the priest/seminarian facilitators of Quo Vadis; and 2) contribute to helping provide snacks for the men throughout the weekend. The snack donation process has, as you may well know, resulted in what has become known as "The World's Greatest Snack Table."

We leave you with these words from an 18th century Italian mystic and founder of the Passionist order:

“Entrust yourself entirely to God. He is a Father and a most loving Father at that, who would rather let heaven and earth collapse than abandon anyone who trusted in him.”
