What We Do

Serrans devote prayer and support for vocations to the ministerial priesthood and the consecrated religious life of the Catholic Church.  The Serra Club of Johnson County in Kansas focuses its efforts at support for vocations within the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

Our Goals

Make visible in society the personal vocational call to holiness.

Increase vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated religious life.

Sponsor activities that benefit vocations within the archdiocese.

The Need is Great

Jesus said, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." (Luke 10:2). The need has increased in recent times. Vocations begin in the home, the domestic Church.  In praying for vocations, we pray for strong Catholic marriages, where the seeds of vocations are sewn. While we cannot determine the vocation of another, we do know that God always calls. We pray for the spiritual gifts of wisdom and understanding, needed to support one discerning God's call.  We pray for the spiritual gifts of fortitude and piety, needed to run the race and carry out this earthly life walking with the Lord and His Church. Prayer is the foundation of the work of Serrans worldwide.

Personal Encounter

Inasmuch as a relationship a fellow Catholic begins with a personal encounter with another, so, too, our relationship with Jesus begins through a personal encounter with Him.  Jesus uses our human relationships to make Himself known to others among us. Pope St. John Paul II said, “Prayer moves the heart of God.” Through prayer and the development of enduring Catholic friendships, we persevere in our effort to live His call to personal holiness and our work for vocations.
