Religious Sisters Appreciation Day 2025

The 2025 edition of the Religious Sisters Appreciation Day is slated for Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 21801 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66218.
Start time is 3:00 PM. The event is scheduled to run through 6:00 PM. The event is sponsored by the Serra Club of Kansas City, Kansas. Here are more details from the Serra KCK publicity piece:
When we look at the Kansas City area, we note the many congregations represented and the diverse work they perform. We have those whose mission is to feed and “aid homeless women, going so far as to "sleep on the floor and give their beds to the homeless women staying with them." Others go out into the homes in the community to care for the sick and suffering. They look after both their physical and spiritual needs. There are Sisters who work for peace and justice. They maintain a place for retreats where people, no matter what their beliefs, might come and find peace. Some Sisters live in poverty and spread the word of God, living as He did, from the charity of others. Others teach our children, care for the sick, and work as administrators in schools, colleges, and hospitals.
In the missions they provide clean water, education, job training, and medical care. One thing these Sisters have in common is a love of Christ and they hold out their hand to those who might need help without worrying if they will be repaid. The “Religious Sister’s Appreciation Day” is a thank you to all the Sisters for what they do and have done for our community through the years.

The RELIGIOUS SISTERS’ APPRECIATION DAY (RSAD) is one of few days we have a chance to acknowledge the wonderful women who serve in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph. RSAD includes a social hour, where the Sisters can renew old friendships and make new ones. They have a chance to win some small prizes playing BINGO. There is a catered meal from Jack Stack BBQ, along with home made desserts, many made by Serrans or their spouses.
Each Sister who attends receives a gift stipend and, after the expenses for the day. Any remaining money is available to congregations as grants to help further Religious Women’s Vocations.
If you have attended this event in the past you know what a joyful day it is. If you have not attended before, consider attending, bringing a dessert, making a donation or helping by volunteering to serve the Sisters who do so much to serve in our community. Thank you.
