The Serra Clubs of Kansas City, KS, and Johnson County combined forces in the chapel and in the kitchen in contributing to this year's Quo Vadis retreat. Look inside for the rest of the story.
In a remarkable joint effort all around, the Serra Clubs of Kansas City, KS, and Johnson County combined talents and treasures in a show of suppport for the men attending and facilitating the 2023 annual Quo Vadis retreat. This year's retreat saw the largest gathering of young in the history of the event, with 85 retreatants from around the archdiocese in attendance. There were young men present from Atchison, Emporia, and Sabetha, KS. Five priests facilitated the event, assisted by 23 seminarians.
In creating the 2023 version of "The World's Greatest Snack Table," coordinator Joane Wilkerson was helped by monetary contributions from 41 Serrans and donations of homemade goods from at least another 25 Serrans. The pictures tell the story better than any words. "Fabulous," "terrific," "outstanding," and "wicked," were all adjectives used in describing the veritable banquet of snacks. As if a snack table couldn't stand alone, retreatants and seminarians were treated to Krispy Kreme® Donuts by Serrans on Saturday morning.
Snack table set-up happened on Friday morning before the start of the weekend retreat. Wilkerson has managed the snack table since 2018, and is assisted in the annual set-up tasks by her sister-in-law, Peggy VanDyke (Serra Club of Kansas City, MO) and Peggy's good friend, Ann Aldridge. "They are great girls and super helpful," Joane said.
In the prayer chapel, 58 Serrans from both the JOCO Serra and Serra KCK clubs + 2 FOCUS missionaries combined to cover the entire 44 hours of the retreat weekend in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Starting at 5:00 PM on Friday, and concluding at 1:00 PM on Sunday, the adoration effort saw as many as 5 Serrans in a prayer chapel in the same hour during the weekend.
May God accept the Serran works of mercy, spiritual and corporal, in bringing about abundant fruit in our archdiocese.

While this author was unable to make the Kansas City event, we did get to Runnin' with the Revs on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Hayden High School in Topeka. Another entertaining evening and a spirited, competitive basketball game made for a fun event for about 350 spectators.
